Investment Analyst, Investment Consulting
BCom/LLB - University of Melbourne

"I always wanted to work for a firm with global status so I applied for positions at consulting firms with offices worldwide. What set Watson Wyatt apart for me was simply the fact that every representative I met from the company was friendly, approachable and interesting, which painted a firm culture I was particularly attracted to.

I was lucky enough to secure a graduate position straight out of university as an actuarial analyst within the Actuarial & Employee Benefits Practice. I have been at Watson Wyatt for two and a half years now and after about a year, I transferred to the Investment Consulting Practice as an investment analyst. The flexibility in allowing me to make that decision provides further evidence that Watson Wyatt supports its employees in pursuing the career path that is most suited to them. My role as an investment analyst is varied and ranges from performing technical analytical work to getting involved in qualitative research.

I’m currently pursuing further studies to become a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. Studying and working is an immense commitment and one which would be difficult to cope with without the support of Watson Wyatt. Watson Wyatt’s policy is quite generous, offering study days, paid tuition and plenty of moral support.

The best thing about working at Watson Wyatt is the people I work with. It was certainly the factor that made me choose Watson Wyatt over other firms, and it certainly remains the factor which adds that extra dynamic to the job. Working in an industry that challenges you is one thing, but conversing and building relationships with talented and interesting people everyday is what completes the package.

Work/life balance for its employees is important to Watson Wyatt. The culture within the firm is such that work is rewarded for quality over quantity. Although, working late does happen on occasion when multiple deadlines happen to fall on a common date, it is definitely not part of the culture. This leaves me with plenty of time to enjoy my interests outside of work like going to the gym and shopping!"
