Getting Involved with our Communities We recognise the importance of supporting the community in which we live. In the
past year, we supported over 20 charities—from the Starlight Children’s
Foundation Australia, to The Fred Hollows Foundation, and the RSPCA. In the
spirit of collaboration and diversity, we ask our employees to nominate
charities they wish to support and we contribute – matching dollar for dollar,
contributions of our associates. Click here to see what some of our employees have been up to.
Continuous Learning and Development “Learn as if you were to live forever.” Mahatma Ghandi Offering specialty advice is what we do—it’s how we help our clients to keep their competitive edge. No matter how much experience you bring to us, we will challenge you. On-the-job learning is a way of life at Watson Wyatt. We help you rise to the challenges that come your way by providing training in those things that you’re expected to know but no-one has ever taught you—business writing, presentation skills, negotiation skills, as well as one of the most fundamental things—how to be a good consultant. Our environment is highly professional, yet relaxed. We have created a good balance between team work and individual work to give you the freedom to shape your role, provide the experiences you desire and the latitude to follow the direction you want to pursue in your career. At Watson Wyatt, your job is about what you want and what you make of it. Occasionally, that may mean a change in direction. We encourage our employees who pursue work-related study. We assist by providing financial support, time away from the office for study and exams and, perhaps most importantly, by giving you valuable guidance and support along the way.
Our culture is one of openness and trust. We minimise hierarchy and have flat management structures. Everyone works alongside and has access to senior consultants, and we encourage continuous dialogue at all levels. We respect each other and act with integrity—always. We are dedicated to our work, and we work hard. But we also have fun, working with each other and with our clients.
We believe that overseas experience can help to broaden perspectives. That’s why we support global secondments, transfers and attendance at many of our global conferences. We currently have employees on assignment in London and New York while, in Australia, we are enjoying the company of colleagues from places such as New York, Bristol and Singapore.
When talking to employees about why they like working at Watson Wyatt, we hear the same recurring theme—the people. Employee opinion surveys tell us that our employees really enjoy working with us, and are committed to helping us achieve our goals. Regular team lunches and staff events allow us to develop strong friendships and make for a very enjoyable work environment. There’s also a variety of company-sponsored employee events, such as Friday night drinks, half-yearly parties to celebrate achievements, trivia nights, lawn bowls, ten-pin bowling, and family days where parents can bring their children to work. We also sponsor our employees in a variety of sporting events and pursuits. Over the years, these have included running, walking, netball, soccer and cricket, as well as ad hoc events such as charity fun runs. |
