Growth Gives Rise to Global Grading System

As companies expand their scope of operations and geographical reach, the demand for a consistent framework to determine the relativity of work inevitably emerges” said Rachelle Arcebal, Asia Pacific Strategic Rewards Practice Leader.

Having a globally consistent approach to evaluating jobs:

  • Creates a common language for work, growth, and development across the organization
  • Facilitates the communication of career paths through the organization
  • Provides a basis for describing job requirements and performance expectations at different levels of the organization
  • Provides a consistent basis for allocating reward programs (base pay, STI, LTI)
  • Forms a foundation for the development of other HR programs including benefits management, career development and job titling – across the globe
  • Facilitates consistent links to external market surveys
  • Ties to business strategy and internal values

Global Grading System

While there are many different approaches to global job leveling, Global Grading System (GGS) is Watson Wyatt’s automated, tried and tested job leveling solution. The GGS combines user-friendly web-based technology with a simple, easy-to-use methodology for job leveling across functions, business units and countries.

“While the system has been designed to eliminate the need for developing a costly and time-consuming customized methodology, the GGS remains flexible and easily accommodates organizational changes including growth, acquisitions, mergers and divestitures”, said Rachelle Arcebal.

3-step Process

Watson Wyatt’s three step process via Global Grading System (GGS) determines the scope of the business unit, establishes band based on responsibility, and arrives at the grade for each job.
