June 2004: Removal of News Corp from the Australian Sharemarket Indices

The News Corporation (“News Corp”) is currently one of the largest stocks listed on the Australian stock exchange, representing around 7% of the S&P/ ASX300 Index. In April 2004, the company announced that it intended to move its country of incorporation and primary sharemarket listing from Australia to the United States. News Corp does however intend to maintain a secondary listing on the Australian stock exchange. Upon relocating to the US, News Corp is expected to be included in the S&P500 index, which broadly speaking is an index of the 500 largest listed companies in the US.
