Current Issue
Globalisation, Off-shoring and Rewards Off-shoring - the movement of jobs from high-cost countries to less costly locations - is a fact of competitive life today. No company can afford to ignore the pressures of off-shoring and expect to remain cost-competitive for long. Variable Pay Plans – Focusing on Performance An often heard organisation mantra in recent times has been pay for performance. Performance is key to operational and financial success and performance pay is a significant reinforcement. Pay for performance programmes often takes the form of variable pay plans and there are many reasons why these plans are popular. Off-shoring Labour The results of an informal survey conducted by Watson Wyatt Worldwide of 33 multinational
organisations, the majority of which have already off-shored business functions,
show that off-shoring has had a positive effect on lowering production costs and
improving operational efficiency. But its impact on several other business-related
issues - including human resource management costs, organisational communication
and marketplace image - is still unclear. Communication Key to Improving Bottom Line Effective corporate communication appears to boost both profits and employee satisfaction, according to Watson Wyatt’s new study - Connecting Organizational Communication to Financial Performance — 2003/2004 Communication ROI Study™.
