Health and Social Spending – A Tale of Two Budgets
Ontario and Alberta recently released their 2006 budgets. While both provided new funding for health care and social services, the nature and range of the funding varied greatly according to the provinces' financial situations. Employers and other plan sponsors could benefit from productivity improvements as an indirect result of the new spending.

2006 Quebec Budget – Encouraging Measures
In its 2006-2007 Budget, tabled on March 23, 2006, the Quebec government announced a number of committments that are encouraging from both employee and employer perspectives. This is the case for phased retirement measures and health care spending, as well as tax deductions, incentives or credits relating to the use of public transit, work-related expenses and home support for the elderly.
