U.S. Developments on Plan Expenses and Investments: Lessons for Canada?
There has been a great deal of activity south of the border recently regarding defined contribution pension plan investments and expenses. Numerous lawsuits have been filed against high-profile plan sponsors and the U.S. Department of Labor has issued draft regulations that include provisions allowing plans to default participants into asset allocation funds. Both of these developments may affect sponsors of Canadian DC plans and cause employers to consider the importance of DC plan governance.
