Ontario Bill 147: The Employment Standards Act, 2000 On November 23, 2000, Bill 147 received first reading in the Ontario legislature. Bill 147 repeals the Employment Standards Act (ESA), which establishes minimum terms and conditions of employment and replaces it with the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA 2000). Bill 147 was passed on December 20th and received Royal Assent the next day.
Ontario Extends Surplus Sharing Regulation On December 21, 2000, Ontario Finance Minister Ernie Eves announced that the current pension surplus sharing Regulation will be extended until December 31, 2001. This marks the fourth extension of the surplus regulation, which came into effect in December 1991, and was originally slated to expire in December 1992.
