Route to Alberta's "Third Way" Still Unclear
Alberta Health and Wellness recently released a Consultation Paper (Getting on With Better Health Care) setting out the province’s framework for reforming its health care system. While this so-called "Third Way" of health care delivery is very short on specifics, Watson Wyatt submitted a response to the Consultation Paper expressing hope that the measures adopted would generate sustainable and true savings rather than merely shift health care costs from the government to individuals and plan sponsors. Although a number of scheduled implementation dates have already passed, most measures relating to the Consultation Paper are "still in the works".
