Quebec’s Bill 30:
What Does it Mean for Defined Benefit Plan Sponsors?

On June 14, 2006, Quebec’s Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity introduced Bill 30, An Act to amend the Supplemental Pension Plans Act, particularly with respect to the funding and administration of pension plans. Bill 30 contains amendments to the Supplemental Pension Plans Act designed to protect pension benefits for plan members and beneficiaries by improving pension plan funding, enhance the governance of pension plans and better define the responsibilities of pension committees.
