Q. What do you
do as an investment consultant?
A. [The investments in the company pension plan]
are the investments that we track, that we look at, that we report
on on a quarterly and
monthly basis. Another thing that we do is we help the pension plan
find money managers. Our job in investment consulting is to work
along with the client to identify the best managers. Once they have
been selected, it’s our job to monitor their performance.
We [also]
help with the whole structure of the plan in terms of investments,
and that’s done once we start a new relationship with a client.
Q. What’s
your favorite part of the workday?
A. Because of how dynamic my workflow
is, I might have the day
planned out, to say I’m going to do ABC. But then I get three,
four calls from clients saying they need three, four different things.
That just
totally changes everything up. That’s what I like about Watson
Wyatt. There isn’t any set way of doing things, where you
come in and
you say, 'alright I know that at 10:00 I do this, at 3:00 I do this.'
Q. What’s
your favorite thing about working at Watson Wyatt?
A. It’s a learning environment. It’s
an environment where you are at
the cutting edge of what’s going on in investments and in
finance, whether it’s things going on with hedge funds or
even with the pension plan reforms that are going on, you are right
there. Even though we are separate practices, we share information
across the board. So for
people who love information, information junkies like myself, it’s
a
very good environment because you are well-rounded, or you have
the ability to become well-rounded. Even though you are an investment
analyst, you don’t have to just stay within that space.
