Q. What do Watson
Wyatt employees do on a normal workday?
A. For the most part, in compensation, [the schedule]
flies out the
window within an hour, so you really are flying by the seat of your
pants, just trying to keep up with the events of the day as they
unfold. A lot of
it is just communicating with clients. I’d say probably half
of my job is speaking with clients and talking [about] the needs
that they have and how we can help them meet those needs.
Q. Are you involved
in any Watson Wyatt social activities?
A. It’s funny you ask that, since I’m
actually the head of the social committee. We try to put on as many
social events as we can, whether that’s in the office or out
of the office. Every month we have a birthday
and service anniversary celebration, so we’ll usually have
a 30 to 45 minute event just to get everybody together and encourage
communication between the practices. There’s also athletic
events.
Q. Overall, what
do you enjoy most about working at Watson Wyatt?
A. I think if you decide to go to work anywhere,
it’s got to be all about the people and the culture of the
organization. If you don’t like the people
you work with, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing –
you’re going to hate
it. So I think that’s first and foremost, and I love the people
in my office. We all get along really well, we joke around, we have
fun, but we work hard, too.
Q. What’s
your favorite part of the workday?
A. My favorite is probably communication with the
client. When they
come back to you and say, ‘Hey, that’s a really great
job you guys did.
We got a lot of value out of this’ – to hear that from
the heads of organizations is really powerful, and it’s a
great motivator.
