Benefits Consulting
What's it really like to work within the Benefits Group of Watson Wyatt?
Why do people join and why do they stay?
Some of our associates offer their insights.
Maria Quinlan
Maria joined Watson Wyatt in 1997 and is now a qualified actuary in our benefits
practice.
"I discovered Watson Wyatt through a friend in the year above me at college. She
had said how much she enjoyed the working environment and, now that I'm here
too, I'd have to agree. It's hardworking, but very friendly. Just as important,
there are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and get involved in
different types of work."
"My work involves doing actuarial valuations for Defined Benefit pension
schemes, as well as doing individual calculations and making presentations to
staff. Best of all, I am now directly involved in advising clients on anything
to do with the running of a pension, life or disability scheme. I recently
worked on a project to sort out the various pension arrangements inherited by a
client that had acquired a number of companies, which was both interesting and
challenging."
