Insurance and Financial Services

Every day is different for consultants working in our I&FS practice. You'll be part of a team that delivers broad-based consulting services in the areas of general insurance and life assurance. Your clients will include many of Europe's leading banks, insurance companies and fund managers.

While technical excellence is a vital component of our services, we also value senior management experience in industry. This helps us translate our expertise into practical solutions that address today's business challenges. A global outlook and excellent communication skills are essential. You can apply your expertise across five product groups:

Financial management is our core actuarial area. As well as valuations, financial reporting and product design, you can expect to be involved in utilising leading-edge modelling techniques in asset-liability modelling studies and helping clients implement fair value accounting.

Mergers & acquisitions advises clients on high-profile deals throughout Europe and further afield. This work goes much wider than traditional actuarial due diligence work and the advice ranges from the formulation of M&A strategy to the practical issues of integrating a new acquisition.

Strategy is our strategic consultancy group. You can be involved in all stages of strategic consultancy from research and analysis to the development of strategic insight and strategy and solution design.

Healthcare advises clients on market entry, product development, operational design and actuarial risk management across the range of health propositions which include private medical insurance, income protection, critical illness, hospital cash plans and long term care.

Software teams develop and maintain international systems for use by our consultants on assignments as well as to be licensed to our clients. The work is diverse, not only in terms of the systems developed but also in respect of the skills required from team members which range from highly technical to business development.

In addition, the Non-life team specialises in premium rating (including its leading multi-variant software package Pretium), risk quantification and capital management using a variety of modelling techniques, statistical skills, financial economics and practical industry knowledge. It also supports mergers and acquisitions and offers practical management and strategic advice.

The sheer volume and variety of projects means you have the opportunity to pursue a broad-based career or to develop your own niche area of expertise. At all times, you can be sure of exposure to the very latest thinking; for example we are taking a leading role in helping businesses prepare for fair value accounting and are examining with our clients the implications of recent regulatory developments. All members of the practice are actively encouraged to contribute to such thought leadership.

You will be on a constant learning curve throughout your career with the I&FS practice. The combined challenge of working in new areas and meeting exceptionally high standards of delivery can be stretching, but you will also enjoy an unusual level of support from your colleagues.
