Healthcare Bulletin: January 2006
BUPA Ireland premium increase

BUPA Ireland have just announced that they will have an average 9.85% price increase for all their members effective for renewals on or after 1 March 2006.

As outlined in previous Watson Wyatt bulletins this follows an average increase of 12.5 per cent from VHI last September and an average increase of 7.5 per cent from VIVAS Health in October last.

As this latest price increase shows the overall cost of private health insurance provision is still on the increase in Ireland with all insurers stating that the recent increases in private bed charges in public hospitals is a contributing factor.

The overall increase is 9.85 per cent but the exact breakdown is as follows:

Hospital Plan Essential Essential Plus
(With excess)
Essential Plus
(Without excess)
Essential Gold
Increase 6% 9.85% 9.85% 9.85%

Hospital Plan HealthManager
