Puerto Rico - Watson Wyatt Insider highlights
The two most recent editions of Watson Wyatt’s Insider contain current information on a wide variety of benefits and related issues.
The October 2003 Insider outlines recent events in the debate regarding interest rates used in pension liability determination.
The October edition also addresses planning requirements for the next phase of HIPAA – the Security Rule – which becomes effective in April, 2005 (for most plans).
Watson Wyatt’s November 2003 Insider describes major tentative decisions made by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regarding equity-based compensation. Under these rules, stock options and other equity instruments will be measured and recognized based on the grant-date fair value of the equity instruments. This decision may ultimately influence design changes for stock-based long-term incentive programs offered by many employers.
Does employee communication pay? The November Insider highlights Watson Wyatt’s recent study that found that companies with the most effective communication experienced a 26% total return to shareholders from 1998 to 2002, compared to a -15% return for companies that communicate less effectively.
