PULSO General Database: General Industry

Information on the compensation market, representing Mexico's leading businesses

230 typical positions, collected industry-wide in the country's principal industrial centers

A total compensation plan, including evaluation of benefits in kind

Emphasis on the process of matching or comparing positions

Evaluation of positions using the Watson Wyatt Global Grading system

Includes market reports and comparisons of the participant against a panorama of selected firms

Predictions for raises in salary, supported by the reported budget for each participant

The information in this database is regularly updated, so that each participant can obtain a comparative report, with recent data, at any date of the year.

The market reports are edited in June of each year and submitted in July. A supplement is edited in December of each year and submitted in February of the following year.

Total Compensation

In our country, compensation is based on an enormous assortment of pay and benefits; because of this, a survey of base salaries would prove insufficient in determining the competitive position of your business.

For this reason, the Watson Wyatt Pulso General database includes an analysis of all possible vehicles for compensation of personnel:

1 – Base Salary, Includes the real salary of employees who occupy the positions surveyed

2 – Fixed Cash Payments, 1 + the value of all guaranteed fixed cash payments

3 – Total Cash Payments, 2 + incentives or variable compensation, quantified in real currency to assure consistency

4 – Taxable Cash Payments, 3 + the value of tax savings to the employee with an eye to tax-free forms of compensation

5 – Total Compensation, 4 + the principal benefits received by employees, evaluated using certified actuarial methodology

The information and specifications for employee service and benefit programs are collected through personal interviews in the participant's offices.

Our system calculates the total compensation for each position, which helps guarantee the accuracy of the results.

The format for typical or benchmark positions in the market report includes a summary of all components in the pay package.

The Deliverables

The market report
Your business will receive a market report containing information on the economic environment, the panorama of participants, and the practices on benefits and services and plans for managing compensation.
The report includes an overview of the pay levels for each typical or benchmarked position.

The report is distributed in CD format or, if you wish, in hard copy (at additional charge).

Individual Comparison
Your business will also receive a comparative report outlining your business's competitive position, comparing it with real statistical references to the group of firms that you choose, configured using lenses that you determine: statistics, language, currency, etc.

Online Information
Survey information will be available to participants online at no additional cost, through our own PulsOnline, Watson Wyatt's online tool for the use and distribution of data for Mexico.

The analysis includes job-based comparison reports on the concepts of payment and summaries aggregated by function and segment.

Some Elements of the Process

Matching and evaluation
Each position reported by your organization will be carefully compared to similar positions in our database, and will be evaluated using the Global Grading system, which has been used to evaluate thousands of positions in hundreds of businesses the world over.

As part of the process, we will conduct an analysis to ensure that there is consistency in the data grouped together for each business and at the market-wide level.

For your individual comparison, you will be able to define the form in which your positions will be compared - by direct match or by match with evaluation.

Position included
The survey includes a panorama of 230 positions from all strata and all functional groups of the organization [except for sales personnel in the field and CEO].

Data collection with the personal touch, at your offices
Survey data will be collected in a questionnaire that will be sent ahead of time to each participant and revised by a Watson Wyatt consultant, together with the human resources leadership of your business.

Out task force
The members of our task force have been conducting total compensation surveys - for twenty years, in some cases; they have been exhaustively trained in these procedures and have become familiar with the global environment and the compensation practices of all the various industrial sectors.

Other Included Services

As part of their annual subscription, participants have the right to attend events where results are released. There, we present the principal discoveries made by our consultants, at no additional cost to the participant.

As part of our service, we also include an orientation session, in which participants learn the details of our reporting structure, methodology, and the detailed contents of every report they will receive.
