Compensation and Benefit Trends in Central and Eastern Europe

1989 was a watershed year for political and social change in Eastern Europe. Democratic reform swept across the region as former communist countries became independent, adapting to the West's free market practices and political systems. Attracted by the new political climate and lower production and labour costs, many multinationals have since then established companies, acquiring a base from which to introduce their brands and broaden their global competitiveness. Early attempts at change revealed a business system devoid of the goals, standards and attitudes necessary for private enterprise, but this is slowly changing.
