Spain:

Foreign assets held by pension funds

The Spanish Finance Ministry has issued a proposal which, if it becomes law, will increase the proportion of foreign assets that Spanish pension funds can hold. The measures will also allow non-Spanish institutions to manage a proportion of the assets of a Spanish pension fund. There are currently no restrictions on the level of foreign investment that Spanish funds can make, but in practice less than 7% of their total assets are invested outside Spain.
