Kenya:

National social security fund

Plans to increase contributions to the Kenyan National Social Security Fund for both employers and employees have been announced. Currently, the contribution rate for both is effectively KSh 80 a month, equating to 5% on earnings up to KSh 1,600 a month. There has been no change in these contribution rates for several years and as the average earnings of non-manual employees significantly exceeds the ceiling, there has effectively been a cap on contributions for employers and employees in this sector. Under the current proposals, the contributions would more than double to KSh 180 per month.
