Slovenia:

Agreement on state pension reform

The social partners have finally reached agreement on reform of the state pension system in Slovenia. The normal retirement age is to be raised to 63 for men and 61 for women from the current levels of 58 and 54 respectively, although there will be provision for early and deferred retirement with appropriate adjustment of benefit. The change will be implemented gradually and will not become fully operative until 2023. The government's original intention was to equalise state retirement ages at 65 for both men and women, but it revised its proposals in response to union opposition. Proposals to establish compulsory supplementary pension schemes linked to individual contributions have been discarded.
