Introduction of defined contribution plans delayed

The various ministries involved in the introduction of 401(k)-style defined contribution plans have decided to delay the start date for corporate retirement plans until 10 January 2001. Their original schedule had provided for these to be introduced in Autumn 2000. The decision to defer was taken because it was felt that the process will be much smoother if it takes place after the merger of the health and labour ministries which is to be part of a reorganisation scheduled for January 2001.
