The Nordic pensions revolution Download the PDF Version
5th November.... A date in the millennium year that Stockholmers were unlikely to forget, but perhaps for what an outsider might see as a somewhat unusual reason. Placards on every bus stop were reminding them of the deadline for choosing investment funds for their state pension. And while in the run-up to Christmas we were grateful that advertising for children's toys was banned on Swedish television, we might also have wished for a similar ban on pensions-related adverts, so saturating was the coverage on television and radio!

Newsbriefs - Developments reported this month:

Brazil: Government rules on early retirement age for private retirement plans

Germany: Pension reform another step closer

Mexico: New social security law

Netherlands: Pension and annuities for seconded workers

United Kingdom: A resolution to the part-timers issues?

...and globally: Integrated Disability Management Around the World 2000/2001

Diary date: International discussion group

At the second in Watson Wyatt's series of International Discussions Groups in 2001, Eric Steedman, a senior consultant in our Stockholm office and with wide experience of international issues, will examine current trends and issues for employers providing occupational benefits in Scandinavia.
