2020 Vision: The Future Landscape of the Pension and Investment Industry
The investment world is subject to change on an unprecedented level. The pressure on pension plan sponsors, fiduciaries, asset managers and consultants to keep up with change is intense. Challenges include market instability, a talent bubble, product proliferation, growing non-financial factors and demands for better governance. As a result, we believe the pension fund industry will be radically reshaped by the year 2020. To understand these issues more clearly, Watson Wyatt, in conjunction with the
Financial Times, conducted a global survey into the views of market participants, asking questions such as:
- Will the issues around the talent bubble persist or will we see a decline in demand at some point?
- Will pension funds be forced to spend more on in-house governance and investment resources to cope with recent changes in the market?
- If product proliferation continues, how might this impact the appetite for alpha, and how much will investors be prepared to pay for it?
On March 5, Watson Wyatt hosted a Web conference, “2020 Vision: The Future Landscape of the Pension and Investment Industry,” to discuss the results of the survey and the possible shape of the pension industry by the year 2020.
